So what's up with Road Relish now? Well we're doing something different next. It has recently come to our attention there are all sorts of doofus's out there that don't own record players and hence never get to hear the wonderful original tracks that the band's so generously contribute to our singles series. For the benefit of those backward people we are temporaily caving in to modernity and releasing one of those digital CD things that we have heard so much about. Apparently they sound pretty good but I for one don't believe the hype. Anyway, we're gonna have a selection of Road Relish favourites on it, covering the whole five years, and it's going to be the most deadly compilation album ever. We're aiming for the end of January 2005 and we have a big launch gig extravaganza in the pipeline to mark the occasion. More details to follow. On the singles front, it looks like Road Relish #15 will be Jape and Beautiful Unit. More details on this to follow too ....

10.12.2004

Waiting Room and giveamanakick tour is now over and it all went really well. We sold some records and had a good time. Thanks to the bands for setting it all up and for being so great. The single is now on sale in Road Records and a few other places. Pick up a copy, it's great ... not least for the amazing artwork by Paul Shanahan.

10.12.2004

We're releasing the fourteenth in our fab series of 7" singles at the end of November 2004. This record marks a new phase in the Road Relish project for two reasons. Firstly, we are casting aside our insular Dublin-centric ways by including bands from outside the capital, namely the wonderful Waiting Room from Cork and Limerick rockers, giveamanakick. Secondly, we are taking the Road Relish launch gig experience on the road with four dates in quick succession around the country.

We’ve been big fans of Waiting Room since we heard their excellent Catering For Headphones album which was released on Out On a Limb records earlier this year. Since then they have been wooing all and sundry with their mix of infectious pop and rock dynamics. Undaunted by the small matter of some bastards nicking all their gear, the boys recently set off for a string of dates in the US. Limerick two-piece giveamanakick are about the most incendiary rockin’ live band in Ireland at the moment and we’re pleased as punch to have their riff-tastic noisy rock’n’roll on a Road Relish record at last. Their contribution is the track Let God Touch Your Children which is a long-time live favourite.

Dates are as follows:
Wednesday November 24th:
Dolans (Upstairs), Limerick
Doors 8pm Admission 8 euros (6 euros students)

Thursday November 25th:
Roisin Dubh, Galway
Doors 8pm Admission Free
with special guests The Coldspoon Conspiracy

Friday November 26th:
Cypress Avenue, Cork
Doors 8pm Admission 8 euros

Saturday November 27th:
Whelans, Dublin (afternoon gig)
Doors 2pm Admission 6 euros

Now I know its a bit weird to have the Dublin launch in the afternoon but the reason for this is that the mighty Shellac are playing in Vicar Street on Saturday 27th. I, for one, am not going to miss that one so we thought why not have the launch in the afternoon. That way we can all go to Whelans at 2pm, rock out of gamak and Waiting Room and still be in plenty of time to catch Shellac later on. What a great plan, eh?

01.11.2004

Tychonaut/Dinah Brand gig went great in Whelans a few weeks ago. Records are on sale in Road Records so do pop in and pick one up. The Waiting Room/giveamanakick one is being pressed up at the moment and we'll have details of launch gig(s?) soon

05.09.2004

We have a launch gig booked for our next record. The record is the Tychonaut (formerly known as The Tycho Brahe) and Dinah Brand one and it's gonna be on in Whelans on Friday the 20th of August. Both bands will play and there will be the usual shenanigans I suppose. Fantastico.

12.07.2004

Unlucky 13 will be the long-mooted split between The Tycho Brahe and Dinah Brand. We're really excited to have this one ready to go and it will be winding its merry way over to the Czech republic for pressing within the next few days (though not by means of An Post). You all know all about The Tycho Brahe don't you? Recent Meteor award nominees (whatever that means), creators of Ireland first studio double-album, studio-whizzes that also get rave reviews for their live gigs. The track they have given us is called "Before and After Seance" and I think its one of the best (certainly the spookiest) things they have done yet. There's a bit of a spiritual/religious theme continued on the flip with Dinah Brand's track "Perfect and Whole". While the Tychos are probably Ireland's most prolific band, Dinah Brand are anything but. Over a year ago they finally released their amazing debut album "Pale Monkey Blues" and we've spent the last year kicking main-man Dylan's ass to get into a studio and record a new track. Which he has, and its just as good as we had hoped. On the face of it these two bands have more or less nothing in common but they're both brilliant and both completely unique. And they were both formed form the remnants of much-admired Irish bands of the 1990's whose names began with P. Hows that for a spooky coincidence?

We don't have a launch gig booked for this yet but you'll hear all about it as soon as we do.

Hot on the heels of the Tychos/Brand split we'll be releasing a Waiting Room/giveamanakick record. That'll be number 14 and we'll tell you all about it soon

27.03.2004

We have had to change the date for the Xmas party. It's now on the Tuesday before Christmas day (the 23rd).

24.11.2003

Lineup for the Xmas party is Large Mound, Chalets, Daemien Frost, Estel, Alan O'Boyle. More info here

16.11.2003

There hasn't been much news from the Road Relish camp for a while. We are hopefully doing a Tycho Brahe record at some stage in the future but in the meantime we are in the process of organising a mega-Xmas party for December 22nd 2003 in The Hub, Dublin. We're gonna get a bunch of acts that have appeared on the label to play (those that still exist - ha ha) and we're going to chrage a measly one euro in! Yes, just 1 euro. We're so punk rock we make punk rockers look like money-grabbing corporate thieves. Exact details of who is playing are being worked out as we speak so watch this space.

01.11.2003

Ok I lied the launch gig is not "somewhere different" it is in fact somewhere exactly the same - Whelans. We have confirmed a date of Wednesday February 26th. It's gonna be deadly so stick that in your diary now

18.01.2003

We're about to hit number 12. Next record is going to feature Dublin's up and coming pop sensations The Chalets backed with the groovy 80's synth sounds of Neosupervital. It's a really great record and will be the first Road Relish release on white vinyl. The Chalets have contributed fantastic hand-drawn artwork and so it looks deadly as well as sounding deadly. Look out for a launch gig in February. And guess what? It looks like it might be somewhere different this time .....

13.01.2003

Yippeee! Road Relish 11 is about to hit the shops. It is the long-promised split with Joan of Arse and Estel. Launch gig is 19th of November in Whelans. Please come along .... We have a few goodies on the way including Last Post, Dinah Brand, and The Chalets if all goes according to plan. It usually doesn't though.

04.11.2002

We've hit double figures at last. Single number 10 will be released on Wednesday May 8th in Whelans. Nina Hynes and Adrian Crowley will be doing their thing. The record has arrived back from the Czechs and sounds really good. Adrian Crowley's track was recorded last year in Chicago and the Nina Hynes one in France. Any excuse for a holiday with these people. In other news, we have uncovered a bunch of copies of Road Relish #1 that we didn't know we had so all of you Redneck Manifesto completists can hurry down to Road Records and pick one up. There are only a few so don't delay. That record is, in fact, the only Rednecks record with singing on it as far as I know (apart from the do-do-do-do-do bits on the new album, but that's not signing with actual words so it doesn't count).Anyone who didn't go to All Tomorrows Parties last month is a plonker.

05.05.2002

We've finally got number 10 almost up and running. Jesus it takes a long time to organise simple things. It's gonna be Adrian Crowley backed with Nina Hynes. We should hopefully have a release date for it in early March

02.02.2002

Launch party for the next single is September 24th in Whelans (where else?). Both the Connectfour and Jimmy Behan will be playing live. Should be a good one. Number 10 is going to be a split between Adrian Crowley and Nina Hynes (and guess what ? There is singing on both sides !!) and at the moment it looks like number 11 will feature Joan of Arse and Estel. We hope to get both of these out as soon as possible (we are waiting for the Arse .....). Both the Adrian Crowley track and the Joan of Arse one were recorded by Steve Albini, which means that after we release number 11, Albini will have acted as recording engineer on even more Road Relish tracks than Alan O'Boyle. Who would have predicted that? In other news, Dave informs me that there are less than 5 copies of Road Relish 2 (Jubilee and Dot Creek) left for sale in the shop so if you want one you had better go and get one now.

In the meantime here some links .....
Nina Hynes
Estel
The Connectfour Orchestra
Joan Of Arse

17.08.2001

Things don't happen very quickly around here but we finally have some news for you all. Number 9 will feature the fantastic Connect 4 Orchestra who have contributed an 8.5 minute epic, backed with rising electronica star Jimmy Behan who we were supposed to do ages ago. The wheels are in motion, the fingers are out, so hopefully this will hit the shops at the end of August or early September. We have 10 and 11 more or less lined up as well so expect an autumn of Road Relish releases hot on each others heels. Some of them may even have singing on them but I wouldn't bet on it at this stage.

20.07.2001

In case you haven't been watching, Road Relish have been taking over your television screens lately with not one, not two, but THREE appearences on No Disco. Firstly it was The Jimmy Cake who were featured on the Audio On section a few weeks back, then almost immediately followed by the groovy video for Americhord's "Snowstorm". Then, two weeks later, they played the Americhord video in it's entirety AGAIN .... fantastic stuff.

02.07.2001

The Jimmy Cake/Damien Frost record arrived yesterday so they are now on sale in Road Records. Go buy one. Now.

17.05.2001

Thanks to everyone for turning up at the launch of 7/8 last Thursday. A good time was had by all and The Jimmy Cake in particular were really great. Thanks to the Cakes and the Frosties for indulging us with the Large Mound tribute at the beginning to celebrate Anthony Mackey's birthday. Number 7 with americhord and Memory Cells is now on sale in Road and we expect to get number 8 (Jimmy Cake and Damien Frost) tomorrow so it should be on sale mid-week sometime. Please go and buy them as we are now broke and need money to pay for the next one. Or else just give us money.

16.05.2001

We have a date confirmed for single launch 7/8. It's Thursday May 10th in Whelans and will feature The Jimmy Cake, Americhord, and Damien Frost all playing live probably with some DJing by Stephen Rennicks of the Memory Cells. Should be a good one.

28.03.2001

There's been a bit of a lack of activity here over the last two months but we're going to make up for it by soon releasing not just one, but yes, two new Road Relish singles. The first one is going to be Americhord and Memory Cells. Americhord aka Maura O'Boyle is an electronic artist whose stuff runs the gamut from thumping dance music to disjointed, jazz-influenced, experimental soundscapes. She has released tracks before on Front End Synthetics and Law & Auder records and will be on the forthcoming Front End Synthetics compilation as well. Memory Cells, fresh from a glowing review in The Wire magazine, have just finished recording their excellent second album and are giving us a track for the other side of the record. The second release looks like its going to be The Jimmy Cake and Damien Frost. The Jimmy Cake are an experimental and improvisational lot, consisting of 9+ members who play an eclectic range of instruments and styles. Their members play in a bewildering array of other bands/side projects including Luc & The Platelets and David Kitts backing band. And if all that isn't enough, they used to be Das Madman. Finally Damien Frost is the new band containing our own Hag of Alpha Relish fame and an ex-member of the brilliant Spudgun (anyone remember the Fusion battle of the bands 94' or thereabouts). They're loud. They're fast. You can't figure out what the fucks going on when you're listening to them. And they rock. We are planning on launching both records with the one gig which will hopefully take place in April. More details to come soon ......

16.02.2001

Road Relish #6 has finally made it into the shops. Sorry about the delay folks - it was completely beyond our control. Also as some people have noticed by now there is a bit of a boo-boo on the record in that Songs:Ohia is spelt Songs:Ohio on the record label itself. The official story is that they made a balls of it in the pressing plant but I reckon this is simply another manifestation of Hag's general slovenliness and incompetence. Either way we will have to learn to live with it. Apologies to Jason Molina if he reads this (does anyone read this?). Our eager overseas readers should note that the record can be bought online from Road Records. Do a search on Road Relish to find it and buy something else while you are at it. Go on, you know you want to.

14.12.2000

The launch gig for number 6 went really well. Thanks to everyone for showing up and in particular to the performers who went to a lot of effort to put together brilliant versions of Songs:Ohia classics. Disastrously the singles failed to arrive in time from the Czech republic and we are still waiting for them at the moment. The latest is that we expect them to be for sale from Monday the 11th of December from Road. Rumours abound that our next release is to be The Connect Four Orchestra and The Jimmy Cake. We can neither confirm nor deny this at present.

10.12.2000

The launch gig for #6 has been confirmed for the 6th of December in the Shelter which is the new mini-Vicar Street. It's going to be a Songs:Ohia tribute night with Glen Hansard headlining but there will also hopefully be some songs from Richie Egan, Niall Byrne, Jeanne D'Arse and a few others. Tickets are on sale from Dave in Road Records. Get 'em now because it will sell out pretty quickly.

24.11.2000

The Road Relish domain is all happy to be hosting a site for our friends Dot Creek. They have an album coming out soon on Independent Records. Check them out at www.roadrelish.com/dotcreek.

24.11.2000

Our comrade at AlphaRelish, Hag, has gone and MP3'd most of the songs from our singles so you can now download tracks by Jubilee Allstars, David Kitt, Large Mound, and all the rest for absolutely free. All you have to do is point your browser at this. In other news the Songs:Ohia/Glen Hansard stuff has been sent off to the dastardly Czechs and will hopefully hit the shops next month. So now you know what to get your Ma for Christmas.

12.11.2000

Next Road Relish release is going to include our first non-Irish artist. We are all excited to have a track from Chicago-based Songs:Ohia. Songs:Ohia is basically Jason Molina from Ohio. His first record came out on Will Oldhams Palace label a few years ago and his more recent ones have involved collaborations with Arab Strap and Edith Frost. This has all come about thanks to Glen Hansard who brought Songs:Ohia to Ireland earlier in the year and who is contributing a track for the other side of the record. The Glen Hansard track was recorded in Chicago in Steve Albini's gaff.

22.09.2000

By the way, astute observers will notice that the Kabinboy/Mound record cover which adorns this site is different to the actual record. This is not some form of ultra-rare alternative edition but simply an earlier version of the artwork, featuring Anthony's now deceased cat, Vlad. Hag sent me the new one but there was something wrong with the file and I couldn't be arsed getting him to do it again. Anyway, I like it so I'm going to leave it there in the hope that it will confuse people. Hag really is a talented chap, even though spelling presents a challenge to him

22.09.2000

At last we have a release and gig date for #5. The kabinboy/Large Mound record will be launched on Sunday 10th September in Whelans. Both bands will be rocking on the night and extra rock will be provided by DJ Paul Shanahan who will be treating us to a selection of rock classics from his massive collection of ,eh, rock. Come along, bang your head, and be the first on your block to own the single by buying it, hot off the Czech presses, on the night.

3.8.2000

We are already ploughing ahead with plans for single #5. After two releases of great electronic type stuff we are itching to bring back the Rock and it looks like we are going to be doing a Kabinboy/Large Mound split. Many of you will be familiar with Kabinboy. They have been coming down to Dublin and blowing people away with their instrumental proto-Sabbath fundametalist rock awesomeness for some time now. They have recently put out a split single with The Redneck Manifesto, have a few other brilliantly done vinyl releases of their own, and we are totally psyched up about having them aboard. Large Mound are also in the business of deconstructing the rock music they like and rebuilding it in new and unexpected ways. Led by the eclectic Anthony Mackey, formely of Here Be Monsters and Venus Envy, and the inspiration behind the now legendary Metallica and ACDC tribute nights, Large Mound also boast Jeanne D'Arse within their ranks. Previous recordings such as 'New Ways With Rock' and 'The Well Known Rock Group' have been released on cassette only. You can find out more about the wonderful world of Large Mound by visiting their web site.

14.6.2000

Thanks to everyone who turned up at the lauch of single #4 last night in Whelans. Everything went fantastic and the turnout far exceeded even our wildest expectations. Richie Egan proved that in addition to being a member of the best rock band in the city, he's also a budding solo artist and songwriter of the highest calibre. And his extended family are lovely too. Dave Cleary Djed with great aplomb and satisfied everyone's curiosity as to what a Hindu version of 'Old Man River' would sound like. However our hats really go off to David Kitt. It's not often that someone lives up to the sort of hype which is building around him but himself and his band were truly great on the night. The Kittster also showed himself to be a true gentleman and a pleasure to do busines with. We wish him well.

14.6.2000

We have the test pressings back for single number 4 and they sound super. Also Richie Egan of the Redneck Manifesto will be playing an acoustic set at the launch party on June 13th. You can buy tickets for this event in Road Records for £5. Get them while they're hot..

24.5.2000

The launch gig for number 4 is confirmed for Tuesday June 13th in Whelans. David Kitt and someone else will be playing on the night. The record consists of a David Kitt tune backed with a piece by Mr Deasey Mooneye (who is known as Dave Cleary to his mates). We're going all experimental with this one. We may even get reviewed in The Wire.

19.4.2000

Next release is going to be David Kitt and Dave Cleary. This should be out sometime in May with a release gig at the same time.

11.4.2000

Single number 3 in the series is finally out and only a couple of weeks late. Cheers to everybody who attended the lauch gig in the Temple Bar Music Centre. If you missed out on it, well lets just say we have proof that Elvis is alive and well and still tucking into those wonderful burgers. Thanks to both bands for giving up their time on the night and hopefully we will have some photos soon. We should have some news on the next release pretty soon, both acts are more or less confirmed at this stage, we are just waiting on final confirmation before we start getting you all too excited.

28.3.2000

We can announce the launch of the new Burning Love Jumpsuit website so you can go and check out what they are all about and see what kind of weirdness is going on inside the minds of those particular gentlemen.

25.2.2000

Finally we can confirm the lauch party for Single #3. The gig will take place in the Temple Bar Music Centre on Thursday 23rd of March. Sorry we are a little bit late with this one but we have had such problems trying to book a venue in this city, they are all booked out a few months in advance and we are never that much ahead of ourselves. Both Decal and Burning Love Jumpsuit will be performing on the night. Decal will be doing a totally live set and I will use the word live as loosely as is possible to describe Burning Love Jumpsuit's show, lets just leave it at performing. We will have some guest DJ's on the night after the bands are finished their rock and roll routines. Screamadelica will take place as usual in the Music Centre but our guests will be spinning in the main area so anybody who wishes to stay on for the late night show can do so at no extra cost. The gig will start at 8.30 and the club will continue until 2.00.

25.2.2000

Confirmation of Single #3 on the label. Dublin electronic giants 'Decal' will be appearing on one side with their little pop ditty 'Ladies Love My 808' a totally exclusive track specially recorded for the label. On the other side 'Buring Love Jumpsuit' will be making their debut, apart from a few cassettes released by themselves, with their wonderfully funky 'N.C Travel'. Watch out for details on a launch gig in March.

31.1.2000

You can now buy the Road Relish singles on our secure server, as well as some other rare independent Irish releases. Check out here or just go to the Alpha Relish site and they will take you there.

8.1.2000

The first single in the Road Relish series featuring The Idiots and The Redneck Manifesto is now officially completely sold out so sorry to anyone who may have missed out on that one. Its time to start collecting them now. Number 2 featuring Jubilee Allstars and Dot Creek is also selling very fast so get your sweaty little mittens on this one before it too is all gone. I guarantee we will never repress any of the issues.

8.1.2000

We have had some requests from people asking if we are going to make it possible for people to pre-pay for the singles in advance, so we will give in to public pressure. If you, or a friend, want to subcribe for the next 5 singles (presuming you have the first that will make a complete years worth of 7"s) you can do so by sending me an email telling me where you live and where you want it posted to and I will work out the price for the 5 singles and the postage and get back to you. It couldn't be easier than that now could it. We can accept payment by cheque, credit card or postal order.

13.12.1999

Just some quick news about our provisional plans for Single No. 3. At this very moment in time the two artists are going to be Dublin techno\ ambient 2 piece Decal and the much reclusive collective Buring Love Jumpsuit. More news to follow.

6.12.1999

We are now down to about the last 50 copies of our first single (The Idiots \ The Redneck Manifesto) so if you want to get in on the act and get hold of number one you better be quick because this things will never ever be re-pressed.

6.12.1999

Single number 2 will be officially released with a gig in Whelans on Wexford Street on the 28th of December and will feature 2 new exclusive tracks from Jubilee Allstars and Dot Creek. Jubilee Allstars supply us with 'Lamplight', a track taken from their forthcoming album coming out on Dublin's 'Independent Records'. The track was produced by Thom Monaghan, he being one of the main men behind the wonderful U.S. outfit 'The Pernice Brothers'. Dot Creek have produced yet another country pop classic with 'Cast' a beautiful mellow classic fully utilizing their triple vocal harmonies. Admission to the gig will be £5.00 and the single will go on sale in the venue on the night and that will be the only place the single can be bought before January 2000. This could just be the last great single of the 20th century.
